About DMS
| |
|

The Delaware Mineralogical Society (DMS) is a club of people interested in minerals, fossils, gems, lapidary
arts, and related areas. Membership
is open to all ages, regardless of experience.
We have been organized since 1960, and enjoy meeting to
talk about our hobby, and to participate in fun, educational activities.
Our monthly newsletter is The Geogram, which
includes informative articles and stories, an activities page with puzzles,
calendar of events, along with pertinent news about our club and the
rockhounding community.
We hold numerous fieldtrips, an annual show, and
support educators and the Scouts in the arena of earth science advancement.
DMS participates in a larger group of national clubs as
a member of hobbyist alliances and federations.
Membership benefits include: receipt of our monthly
newsletter, access to fieldtrip sites open to few others, participation on
fun and educational programs and events, assistance in identifying minerals
and fossils, club library privileges, fellowship with enthusiasts (some of
whom are professional scientists), opportunities to volunteer in community
events, free specimens from time-to-time, and much more.
Officially, The Delaware Mineralogical Society, Inc. is
organized as a non-profit corporation and recognized by the
Internal Revenue Service as a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization. All
contributions and donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

We also participate in the North East Field Trip
Alliance (NEFTA), now known
as EFTA, the Eastern Field Trip Alliance.
The North East Eastern Trip Alliance (NEFTA) has changed its name to
Eastern Field Trip Alliance (EFTA). Why the change? Here is the reason from their
website: "Previously the Northeast Field Trip Alliance (NEFTA) was asked to expand to
involve all the clubs that are affiliated with EFMLS so we are now EFTA. A means of
opening field trips to our fellow EFMLS members along the Eastern coast." Their
website has remained the same: http://www.nefta.us/.
